People make what of themselves by comparing themselves to other ppl. That is about the only way we can measure our well being cause there isn’t exactly any SI unit for that equation.
Problem is that the overglamourification of the millionaire lifestyle on the media I think really hit alot of teenagers in most developed countries (those that i see of course). Teens there (or here, yes you might say Malaysia isn’t exactly a developed countries but we’ve whatever the American kids can have Iphone4, Blackberry, PC, PS3 etc) don’t compare themselves to Africans or Rural Indians who can barely fill their stomachs everyday. Im lazy to check my statistic but I estimate that is like 20% of the world population. Instead teens are comparing themselves to those who are living the millionaire lifestyle which are people at the top end of the hierarchy which probably consits of only about 1% of the world’s total population. Logically if you use rational mathemtical analytic methods that doesnt make sense but sadly yes thats the truth.
We all want to have private jets, yachts cruising with almost naked women popping champagne wearing the coolest designer shades (if this sounds familiar well cause thats what most Hip-Hop video looks like, now im talking about media brain washing). We all are sort of pressured to be that rich (unnecessary pressure from ourselves if you ask me), 20year old teens nowdays are worried about how to make the millions and how to make it to the high life while a generation ago our parens were worried about how to make a comfortable living to sustain a family. It has come down to a point where life is all about making money, and we only fix our mind on the only thing that’s satisfying in life are those that can only be bought in over 5 figure numbers. We forget about how easy life can be, and still be happy. Are we actually happier than kids in India who just have enough to eat but everytime they eat their faces glow with smile. Everytime they spend some good time with their family just playing some games which I cant make sense of (cause it’s all computer and Iphone now in my world).
Can we be happy without the need of making that MUCH money ? Is one’s well-being that proportional on how much money he makes?
I have to confess I love Dior Homme, and Prada accesories I’m not exactly the most low maintenance guy. But I do believe life can be so easily satisfying if we can stop comparing ourselves to people that are better off. Cause there will always be people that are better which makes the case that we can never be satisfied if we keep on evaluating our well being by comparing it to other people.
Just live life as it is, and enjoying all the little bits of it. The family, the friendships, and most important the moments of smiles and laughters. It is not that hard to be happy. How much money you make, well to me instead of trying to make more money. Why not try to make the best out of whatever situation possible? If you’re not a millionaire, enjoy life without the need of the millionaire lifestyle.
I’m not saying that we all shouldnt fight for achievements, but I’ve read enough to know that sometimes achievement is more than personal skills or hardwork. A big part of it is based on luck, and timing, and legacy. Probably even good karma. and let me stress again ALOT OF LUCK. Do you think good actors make it just cause they are BETTER than those that don’t ? Try think about it. Or lets take singing for example, do you actually think that there’s noone out there that can sing as well as Susan Boyle/Celine Dion/Mariah Carey ?
If you make it, great. If you dont, don’t sweat it. Life is still wonderful.
Everything is 4times more expensive than my place, talk about purchasing power inequality. A bottle of water costs RM5, talk about scarcity of resources.
Red light district was totally traumatizing (i didn’t have any kinky intention in mind going there, for mere sight seeing). Not pleasant looking thais talk to you things like HELLO HAPPY HAPPY, not the most pleasurable walk in the world. I’m pretty much determined to be really rich or have a lousy sex life, no way im going to lower myself to this standard for lust fulfilling.
Last day of clubbing the probability of beautiful girls was about 0/1000.
Other than that, whats there to say about Singapore. That place is so familiar I didn’t even bother to bring my camera.
